COMING SOON...A NEW BOOK AT LAST.

Akasuki, lowest of honourable lord and great daimyo, Miyoshi Nishiki's foot soldiers, is bound by oaths of loyalty and duty to save Reiji, the lord's only son and heir. If the family is threatened she must use her skills, her mother's gift, and ninja training, to save the child. When the Summer Palace is unexpectantly attacked she takes Reiji and they run. Akasuki must get Reiji to safety, escape the attacking warriors, some unfriendly locals, and find a safe place. But where is it safe to hide and wait for her lord, Miyoshi Nishiki, to repel the invaders and seek his son? Then she remembers the Salt Run. If she can reach the river and catch one of the salt boats they can vanish, hidden in a village in the mountains. But can she get a four year old boy through enemy lines and to the river and find a salt boat? And will the Salt Boat people want to hide the honourable Miyoshi Nishiki’s son when there’s a chance to make money selling him to the enemy? Akasuki will need all her skills and good fortune to succeed, but if she does then perhaps she will be honoured with respect, no longer the lowest of the low in her lord's household.

Cherry blossom time right now in New Zealand as seen in our local park where the trees are planted around the traditional Asian red bridge. Makes me nostalgic for Japan and the lovely Hanami festivals I enjoyed there. I do miss that ancient culture and its history and mythology, so colourful and amazingly spiritual.

Welcome to you new readers, you 176 keen historical readers who've signed permission at the recent historical fiction Booksweeps competition. Thank you. Be assured that, like most of my readers, I'm too busy to pepper you with emails. Once a month, on the 6th, I'll send you a newsletter with offers of free and bargain - mainly historical - books. I don't push my own books or yell BUY, but hope that some of you are happy to Beta read for me or take a free A(dvance) R(eading) C(opy) and leave a comment on social media. If you like to know personal author details, check me out at my websites: www.pdrlindsay.co.nz, and find my books at www.books.pdrlindsay.co.nz.

There's a link to a free short story at the end of this newsletter as a gift to you all.

And thank you to those who sent good wishes for my operation. The new shoulder joint is in and beginning to work.

Usual warning: Watch out for that deadline.

I've been reading old favourites and haven't found a new, straight historical novel in the library new books section. Everything new and historical seems to be gothically weird or crosses into fantasy with some sort of magic. Hopefully I'll find something in the selection here. Anyone found a good straight historical read recently?
